Shellee Reading, Controller

With over 25 years of distinguished experience in accounting and financial management, Shellee Reading has earned a reputation as a leading Controller at Avenues Financial. Her extensive career is marked by a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of financial systems, serving businesses with revenues ranging from $150K to over $10M.

Shellee’s expertise encompasses a broad array of accounting functions, including the meticulous reconciliation of bank and credit card statements and the development and presentation of comprehensive financial reports—such as monthly budgets, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets. 

In her role, Shellee excels in managing and reviewing financial documentation to ensure strict compliance with company policies and accounting standards. She is adept at implementing and overseeing various methods of accounting to ensure seamless financial operations.

Shellee is also responsible for overseeing accounts payable and receivable processes, safeguarding optimal cash flow for clients. Her thorough knowledge of state sales and use tax laws—spanning over ten states—ensures accurate and timely tax filings. As a key liaison between clients and state and federal agencies, Shellee facilitates efficient tax return submissions and resolves any related issues.

Beyond her financial acumen, Shellee has substantial experience in human resources management. She excels in hiring, training, and supervising both employees and independent contractors, and manages critical HR functions such as healthcare, dental, and HSA account administration, along with payroll processing and reporting.

Nicole Jensen, CPA

Nicole Jensen is a distinguished financial leader and one of the founding members of Avenues Financial. As the Chief Financial Officer, she brings a wealth of experience and expertise in financial management, accounting, and strategic consulting.

Nicole began her career as an internal auditor with a focus on supply chain logistics, where she honed her skills in preparing monthly financial statements, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and managing the reporting of over 10,000 assets. Her role also involved pivotal contributions to two acquisitions, a $3.5 billion merger, and the divestiture of a business segment.

Transitioning to a financial consulting firm, Nicole expanded her expertise by working on multiple initial public offerings (IPOs), aiding large corporations in the cleanup of their financial statements, and ensuring compliance with SOX 404 regulations. This role solidified her reputation as a knowledgeable and versatile financial advisor.

At Avenues Financial, Nicole leverages her broad accounting background to consult with both business and individual clients. Her comprehensive experience equips her to provide insightful and actionable advice in areas such as internal accounting, periodic reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.

Nicole holds a Master of Science Degree in Accounting with an Audit Specialization and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, both from the University of Utah. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Utah and actively participates in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants.
